Action Alert! - Preserving the tax deduction for charitable contributions!

Please help Tabitha send a resounding message to Nebraska’s Congressional Delegation!

It is important for them to understand that losing the tax deduction for charitable contributions would significantly and negatively impact our ability to generate donations that are vital to sustaining Tabitha’s Mission of service to Elders.

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means is hearing testimony today, so the timing of your message couldn’t be better.

Call to Action: Preserve Public and Private Funding for Aging Services - Feb. 5, 2013

Federal funding for aging services programs, like those provided by Tabitha, will be cut substantially as of March 3 unless Congress passes legislation to prevent automatic spending reductions, known as sequestration.

The Budget Control Act of 2011 called on Congress to reduce the federal budget deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next ten years. Congress so far has been unable to pass deficit reduction legislation to satisfy this requirement. March 1 is the latest deadline to avoid a “fiscal cliff.”

Sequestration will have the following impact on aging services:

  • Medicare reimbursement to health care providers will be cut by 2%. These cuts will amount to an $11 billion cut in Medicare spending.
  • A 5.1% cut in Section 202 housing funding, amounting to $18 million.
  • The Administration on Aging, which manages Older Americans Act programs, would get a 5.1% cut, amounting to $86.7 million.
  • Medicaid is one of the few federal programs that would be exempt from the automatic spending cuts.

There is no denying the seriousness of the federal budget situation and the need for shared sacrifice to address it.

However, aging services programs already have absorbed many cutbacks over the last few years. Section 202 funding for this year is less than half of what it was three years ago. We have had no new construction money for two years. Medicare reimbursement has been curbed both administratively and under the Affordable Care Act.

We are concerned about the potential impact of more spending cuts on programs that already are under-funded in relation to the growing number of elders needing services. In addition, if sequestration goes into effect, funding levels for future years will be computed according to the new, lower baseline.

Your legislators need to know how automatic spending cuts will affect the people you serve, many of whom are physically or mentally frail, with limited financial resources.

Please contact your legislators by clicking the link below and urge them to prevent sequestration by taking a fair and balanced approach to reducing the federal budget deficit. We need a budget plan that does not impose a disproportionate burden on those least able to sustain cutbacks in health care, housing and long-term services and supports for people as they age.

CALL TO ACTION: LB405 - Feb. 4, 2013

On Wednesday, February 6, Tabitha will be testifying at a legislative hearing regarding LB405. This piece of legislation would eliminate sales tax exemption for ALL non-profit organizations, including Tabitha. This change, if passed, would result in increasing operating costs, and could force many non-profit organizations, such as Tabitha, to pass the costs on to our community’s Elders and in some cases, eliminate important services.

If this legislation advances, the impact on Elders in need of care, some of whom have already outlived their resources, will be great. Tabitha is speaking out against LB405. Will you?

Ways to Help:

  • Attend the public hearing on February 6, 2013, 1:30 p.m., room #1524 at the State Capital. The hearing will also be broadcast on NET2, the Legislature’s web site and NET’s web site, www.netNebraska.org/television

Call to Action - Help us preserve tax incentives for charitable giving - Dec. 14, 2012

CALL TO ACTION!

Congress is currently considering proposals to cap or eliminate tax deductions for charitable giving.  Tabitha needs you to take just a minute and call 888.277.8686 to tell Nebraska’s delegation how important charitable giving is to those we serve across Southeastern Nebraska.

The Tabitha Foundation is a shining example of Mission-based Charitable Giving strategy.  It is essential to protecting Tabitha’s ability to serve the most vulnerable Elders in need of care and without personal resources to pay.

Over the past 5 years, thanks to charitable giving, Tabitha has provided health care services that otherwise would not have been provided and would have otherwise significantly increased cost to Federal and State funded programs.

Reducing or removing tax incentives for individuals who give so that the needs of Elders can be served is bad policy and a threat to the provision of food, shelter and health for those who need it most.

Call 888.277.8686 and preserve the right of those with resources and generous hearts to support Elders in Nebraska.

Thank you!
