1886: Tabitha is founded as an orphanage by Rev. Henry Heiner
1890: "Old Main" is constructed as residence to house orphaned children, homeless adults and elderly
1907: Expansion into Lutheran hospital and school of nursing
1909: Service begins for tuberculosis patients
1926: Nazareth Building (boy’ dormitory) is built
1937: Bethel Building (girls’ dormitory) is built
1946: Construction begins on today’s Tabitha Nursing & Rehabilitation Center south wing
1960: Original role as an orphanage ends; records transferred to Lutheran Family Services in Omaha
1966: Home health care services begin; Tabitha Home Health becomes Medicare-certified
1967: Meals on Wheels service begins
1971: Addition of new skilled nursing unit
1973: Tabitha Village Apartments are built
1974: Offices established in Friend and Seward
1974: Home care services begin in Saline County
1975: Walter Apartments are built in north Lincoln
1979: Tabitha Hospice (then Hospice of Tabitha) begins; first hospice service in Lincoln
1979: Hamilton County office (Aurora) opens
1980: Rehabilitation services begin
1981: Creation of Tabitha Foundation
1982: Hospice services become Medicare-certified
1982: Private-duty home care services established as Special Care Services
1987: Special Care Services becomes Tabitha Bryan Special Care
1990: Hospice services expand into Seward and York counties
1992: Maseman Unit is established for inpatient hospice care
1993: Maseman Unit is dedicated in honor of Martha A. Maseman, RN, who pioneered Tabitha’s home health care, hospice and Meals on Wheels services
1993: Johnsen Family Wing opens
1995: Augustine Rehabilitation Unit opens
1996: Offices open in Grand Island and York
1996: Tabitha Bryan Special Care becomes Home Care Specialties of Tabitha, Inc.
1997: Nursing home renamed Tabitha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
1997: Office opens in Nebraska City
1999: Kimmel Solarium for Alzheimer’s care opens
1999: Garden Lane Adult Day Services begin at Tabitha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
1999: “Sidewalk Cafe" opens in Tabitha Nursing & Rehabilitation Center
2001: Tabitha Intergenerational Center opens, providing child care for Tabitha employees and the community
2002: Tabitha is selected as one of four model sites for national Green House Project®
2004: Tabitha Hospice is formally recognized as the founding hospice in Nebraska at the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s national conference in Washington, D.C.
2004: LifeQuest Rehabilitation Center opens
2006: Tabitha opens Nebraska's first Green House® home for long-term care
2006: Tabitha Nursing Center at Crete (today Tabitha of Crete) opens
2007: Tabitha introduces Honeywell HomMed® Telehealth
2007: On Nov. 19, Tabitha Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver the program’s three-millionth meal
2010: Tabitha adds Garden Square Assisted Living of Crete to its continuum of health care services
2010: Tabitha opens its second Green House home
2011: Tabitha opens four new living communities—two additional Green House homes, GracePointe Assisted Living & Memory Care Suites, and Journey House, Lincoln's only free-standing, Medicare-certified hospice community
2011: Club 4 Fitness and Rehabilitation Gym opens
