Does Hospice support the caregiver as well as the patient?
It is a myth that someone must be with a hospice patient at all times.
FACT: Alternatives to the family member being the constant caregiver are VoiceCare personal response and increased visits by the Tabitha Hospice Team (for example: a volunteer can sit with the hospice client while the caregiver is away).
• Tabitha’s continuum of services can help with respite, errand running, transportation, assistance with personal care, cooking, cleaning, etc.
• Counseling services are available for both the client and caregiver.
• Social workers can offer additional education and resources.
• Nurses can make more frequent visits so the caregiver doesn’t have to be with the Hospice client at all times.
• Volunteers can help with visiting, medication deliveries, companionship (volunteers have been known to make all the arrangements to take a client to watch his last football game at Memorial Stadium, get baptized or just go out for a cheeseburger).
• Tabitha offers 18-month bereavement following death.
