Message From The President

Keith Fickenscher

It is the greatest honor of my life to serve as the 14th President in Tabitha's 120-year history. It has been said, "You can judge a community by the way it cares for its elderly." Using that measure, Tabitha has been a significant contributor to Lincoln's reputation for compassionate, high quality care for Elders.

I once read that "God's call is where your deepest hunger and the world's greatest needs meet." Tabitha's 759 employees answer their call every day, and in the process, weave a safety net that annually supports nearly 5,000 individuals with long-term care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, meals on wheels, hospice, independent living, home care, pastoral care, intergenerational adult day and child care and the Green House, a new model of nursing home care. In addition, Tabitha's employees and clients are blessed by volunteers who annually donate 60,000 hours of their time to serve others through Tabitha's continuum of services.

Tabitha is a unique ministry in Nebraska; there isn't another organization like us. Our success in maintaining such diverse services across 29 counties in southeast Nebraska both in urban and rural settings, is to the credit of our caring, compassionate employees and volunteers. They have an uncommon dedication to fulfilling their roles in achieving Tabitha's Mission, a Mission that is both physical and spiritual in nature.

In 2004, Tabitha joined hands with Blue Valley Lutheran Homes of Hebron, Nebraska, to ensure continuity of faith-based Elder Care in Thayer County and the surrounding area. Through Tabitha and Blue Valley, about 1,000 employees, over 2,000 volunteers and hundreds of donors and supporters are part of a sacred work – a work that won't be finished in our lifetimes, but which we are privileged to carry on during our watch. We will never finish the job of improving the care and services that Tabitha provides for the people of Nebraska. We are dreamers at Tabitha. We never stop dreaming of the future and all the possibilities and we never stop believing we can make them happen!

I invite you to share in the ministry of Tabitha, a Serving Arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Maybe God's plan for your life includes supporting Elders and if it does, I will tell you there is no place in Nebraska that offers so many diverse opportunities for that service! Your partners will be the most compassionate, dedicated and caring people I have ever encountered. Together, we will continue to set the standard for Elder care in urban and rural Nebraska!
