Generosity won the day at Southwood Lutheran Church’s annual Concert with a Cause. The congregation chose Tabitha Meals on Wheels as its 2015 offering recipient, with attendees giving more than $6,700 for the vital community program following an inspirational message by Tabitha President and CEO Christie Hinrichs.
“We are humbled and honored by the support shown by Southwood Lutheran as well as the attendees here today,” said Hinrichs at the event. “What a pleasure to be part of this fabulous day and to come together in mission with Southwood congregants.”
Southwood’s yearly Concert with a Cause welcomes Christian musical artists and brings together the community in support of a chosen cause. This year, Mary McDonald, a multi-talented composer, arranger, pianist and organist from Tennessee was joined by the Lincoln Boys Choir and Southwood’s senior choir, men’s chorus and quartet for an afternoon of music and mission.
Tabitha Meals on Wheels, founded in 1967, delivers a hot, midday meal directly to individuals’ homes and provides an invaluable safety check, ensuring independence for vulnerable adults who live alone. It was the first and today is the only program of its kind in Lincoln. Recipients pay for their meals either fully or at a reduced rate based on their income and assets. Of the 500+ client Tabitha serves daily, 70 percent cannot afford the full $5.75 cost of a meal. Compassionate volunteers and generous donors ensure this program can continue to say yes to those in need. Learn more about how you can help support Tabitha Meals on Wheels by visiting Tabitha.org.
