About Tabitha Meals on Wheels

For some older adults, all that is needed to live independently in their home is a hot meal. For 50 years, Tabitha Meals on Wheels has been answering this need by serving more than four million nutritious meals in the Lincoln community.

In 1967, Tabitha’s Martha Maseman, a pioneer in Elder Care, recognized the need to provide proper nutrition to elderly and disabled to live safely in their home, and thus created Tabitha Meals on Wheels—the first and only program of its kind in Lincoln.

Tabitha Meals on Wheels serves over 550 clients year-round and the need continues to grow. More than 70 percent of these clients served daily cannot afford the $6.25 cost for a meal.

Despite a 74 percent growth rate in the past decade, Tabitha continues to say “yes” to those in need thanks to the many volunteers and donors who make the program possible. The program not only provides clients a hot meal but a friendly face and a safety check on their well-being. For some Elders, volunteers are often the only person they may have contact with for the day. Learn More
