Tabitha Meals on Wheels has delivered a hot, noon meal to the homes of individuals in the Lincoln community since 1967. It remains the only program of its kind helping individuals remain independently in their homes. People who receive meals do so for many different reasons: they may be unable to go get groceries any longer; their physical limitations or memory issues may cause difficulties in cooking complete meals; or, they may want to eat more healthfully.

Recipients pay for their meals either fully or at a reduced rate based on their income or assets. And of the 400+ Elders Tabitha serves each day, 70% cannot afford the $5.75 cost for a meal. We know that sometimes it’s just a meal that can keep people in independent in their homes. That’s why we turn no one away, regardless of their financial resources. But we can’t do it alone.

Consider volunteering and/or providing a meal to someone in need. A gift of $41 will feed an Elder for a week, $178 for a month, and $2,099 feeds someone for a year. Your gift makes a difference!

A life remembered through a gift is one way to memorialize a friend or loved one. The gift not only honors your loved one’s life, but helps others receive the care they need throughout their own end of life journey.

From the gentle encouragement of a home health aide and compassionate support of a living community care team to the caring companionship of a hospice nurse, the Tabitha team is there to help Elders and families navigate their health care journeys.

Through Tabitha’s Hearts of Gold, families can honor the excellence of their caregiver or team with words of thanks and a gift to the Tabitha Foundation.

Hearts of Gold gifts are used to help fund and enhance our health care programs, allowing others to receive the same outstanding care. Honored care team members are recognized with a Hearts of Gold pendant and presented with a certificate of merit.

Tabitha wants to make dreams come true for Elders, and in doing so, improving the quality of their lives in ways medicine alone cannot. Make It Possible gives our Elders the opportunity to have an experience that otherwise may not be possible. Some Elders desire to watch their grandchild play in a soccer game; others want to make happy, lasting memories with their loved ones; and still others want a friend brought to their bedside for a few final moments of comfort. Together we can make their dream a reality. Consider a contribution to this invaluable fund.

Donations to the Tabitha general fund help us provide loving support that is otherwise unaffordable to many Elders. Fifty percent of the Elders Tabitha serves are low-income. Many have exhausted their resources and have had nowhere to turn. But Tabitha’s mission is to serve all Elders with compassion and dignity.

Although all gifts are important, the advantage of a gift to general support is that it allows the Foundation to use the support where it is needed most, which has significance in an ever-changing economic climate.

A gift of $70.00 can help offset the costs of caring for an Elder for a week, $300.00 helps for a month, and $3,650.00 provides that support for a year…make a difference in just one life!

For many of us, the largest gifts we will ever make are those given at the end of our lives.  Whether through estate giving, gift annuities, trusts or endowments, there are many ways to show your support.

Estate gifts are simply gifts where you list Tabitha as a beneficiary within your will or trust. You can state a specific amount or percentage that will go to support Tabitha.

During your lifetime, you can also establish a future gift that will create a charitable deduction now, but gives you income for life.  A charitable gift annuity or a charitable remainder trust can be an option for you.

Retirement plans will be taxed during your lifetime and at death. You can avoid some or all taxes through proper planning using a charitable gift.

Endowments are the gift that keeps giving.  An endowment is established with a gift. The funds from that gift are invested for maximum income and security. The net income from the investment is used annually according to the donor.

Each year Tabitha creates a wish-list of capital equipment needs. It may consist of new technology that will help us extend care to Elders, or it could be the replacement of out-dated or tired equipment. Education is a lifelong process.  In an ever-changing world, we never stop learning. Tabitha encourages its employees to continue with their education, such as aides who wish to become nurses. We need more caregivers who are forever improving along with our advances in medicine and Tabitha is committed to helping through financial aid. Please consider establishing a scholarship.
