What can I do to reduce my risk of falling?
Falls and fall-related injuries can happen to people of all ages in all types of weather or conditions. To prevent falls, wear supportive, rubber-soled, low-heeled shoes. Use caution in getting up too quickly as low blood pressure may cause dizziness. Have your vision and hearing tested regularly and properly corrected. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about the side effects of drugs you are taking and how they affect your balance and coordination. You may need to use a cane or walker to help maintain balance. Maintain a regular exercise program. Check with your doctor or physical therapist about a suitable exercise program.
