Tabitha Health Care Services is recognizing its hundreds-strong volunteer force with a celebratory pancake feed and open house on Wednesday, May 9. The event is open to the community and will recognize Tabitha volunteers for their outstanding service throughout 2011.
“Tabitha would simply not be Tabitha without the incredible support we have from our faithful volunteers,” said Christie Hinrichs, Tabitha’s president and CEO.
Throughout last year, volunteers supported the organization by providing companionship to Elders, assisting with activities, giving comfort to clients and families of Tabitha Hospice, assisting with administrative tasks, and delivering meals while simultaneously providing invaluable safety checks to Tabitha Meals on Wheels clients. Together, volunteers donated more than 60,000 hours of service in 2011 throughout 28 Nebraska counties.
“Volunteer activities are priceless,” Hinrichs said. “Our volunteers provide companionship, filling the void for Elders who feel lonely; they run errands, allowing family members to spend more time at the bedside of their loved ones; they deliver Meals on Wheels, supporting a program that has delivered more than three million meals to Elders in need. To selflessly share their gifts, expecting nothing in return, is to live a life of love.”
The year saw not only thousands of hours of volunteer activity at Tabitha but also new leadership. Deb Van Dyke-Ries was named Tabitha’s volunteer director, bringing extensive experience in social work and program coordination to the department.
The volunteer appreciation pancake feed will take place on Tabitha’s main campus in the underground parking area at GracePointe Assisted Living & Memory Care Suites (4620 Randolph St.) and spans breakfast (7–9 a.m.), lunch (10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.) and dinner (4–6 p.m.). Volunteers eat free with invitation ticket; guest admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
Tabitha accepts new volunteers every day and will work with you to create a tailored volunteer experience. Share your gifts and talents with the Elders of Tabitha. For more information, visit www.tabitha.org or call 402.486.8563.
