Alexis's Story

Alexis knew it was probably one of the last visits she would make to her grandmother, but she was nervous and afraid. Betty had been hospitalized a handful of times during the past year, and Alexis felt uncomfortable and sad seeing her grandmother in a sterile environment connected to machines and monitors.

Her worries melted away in an instant when she walked through the doors of Journey House. The home immediately felt warm and inviting, and a staff member even greeted her by name. Betty’s room was adorned with family photos and mementos, and Alexis stayed for hours listening to stories, sharing about her own life, looking at old scrapbooks and learning about her family tree.

As it turned out, Alexis and her family enjoyed three more months and many more visits to Journey House before her grandmother passed away there, peacefully. It was a time full of joy and heartfelt moments right up until Betty’s final hours, which she spent in the company of those she loved most.
