Five Million Reasons to Celebrate

Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird joined forces with Tabitha Meals on Wheels to celebrate its milestone of delivering five million meals to Lincoln area residents since its founding back in 1967.

The mayor kicked off her route by getting the perspective of what it means to deliver from Delma Hartig, a respected and long-time Tabitha Meals on Wheels Volunteer who has served for 40 years.

When asked about her own motivation to volunteer, Mayor Gaylor Baird pointed to her children and leading by example, so they understand the importance of helping other people.

Mayor Gaylor Baird’s contribution continues the legacy of thousands upon thousands of Volunteers who have devoted their energy to serving older neighbors for 54 years and counting.

Powered by the passion to deliver Seniors the nutrition to stay strong and healthy at home, members of Tabitha’s meal program pride themselves on keeping a vital part of our community living joyfully and aging gratefully.

Meal recipients John and Linda Nagle praise Tabitha Meals on Wheels for keeping them active and doing the things they love. Linda enjoys volunteering at a parochial school in Lincoln, and without the meal Tabitha provides, giving back to the community would be more challenging.

More than 81% of meal recipients cannot afford the cost of a meal. Tabitha Meals on Wheels counts on the unwavering generosity of independent and corporate donors to advocate for these individuals through donation.

For 82% of meal recipients, the Tabitha Meals on Wheels Volunteer is likely to be the only person they see that day. The kindness and Care packed into every meal and passed on by Volunteers is a light in the lives of so many.

Mayor Gaylor Baird found herself moved by the devotion of so many as well, noting the inherent warmth in being able to share the little moments with members of the Lincoln community. By delivering meals, Volunteers make a positive difference.

For ways you can help, considering giving Tabitha Meals on Wheels your time and talent (Volunteer) or treasure (Give).
